You may know it as an invisible fence or a hidden fence. It comes down to four simple parts, all installed in one visit.
Boundary wire
Buried about 5 inches down, around the area you choose. In a week or two you can’t see where it went in.
Transmitter
A small unit on your garage or basement wall. It plugs into a standard outlet and sends the signal through the wire.
Receiver collar
A 1 oz rechargeable receiver that beeps as your dog nears the wire. One charge lasts about a month.
Training flags
Flags mark the line while your dog learns where the yard ends. They come down gradually after training.

Boundary wire

Best for: most properties
Standard perimeter
The wire runs around your entire property: front yard, back yard and side yards. Your dog can roam everywhere inside it. It’s our most popular layout, and it works for any lot shape.
Best for: properties with pools, gardens or off-limits areas
With exclusion zones
Full perimeter coverage, with small loops inside the yard that keep your dog out of the vegetable garden, away from the pool or off the kids’ play structure.
Best for: corner lots, or when you want to control front and back access separately
Dual zone or hourglass
Front and back yards become separate zones, with the side yards blocked. Your dog moves between them only through the house, so you decide when the front yard is open.
Best for: busy streets, small front yards, or when front access isn’t needed
Backyard only
Keeps your dog in the backyard. The wire runs around the back and tight along the side and front of the house, so the front door and the garage aren’t a way out.
Best for: properties where running wire across the front isn’t practical
Banana loop
Uses your house as part of the boundary. The wire runs from one back corner of the house, around the backyard, and to the other corner. Simple and effective for the backyard.
Best for: cottages, lakefront properties, and homes on ponds or rivers
Waterfront
Your dog can have the dock, the beach or the shoreline and still stay on your property. Waterfront layouts take careful planning, so we talk through the safest approach with you first.
Best for: fences with gaps, and dogs that jump or climb
Along an existing fence
Already have a fence your dog gets past? The wire can follow it as a backup, covering the gaps under gates and the places where your dog jumps or climbs.
Not sure which one fits your property? We look at your lot on satellite and draw yours, free.
If we can’t contain your dog, you get your money back.
Follow the training plan, tell us if your dog challenges the boundary, and give us a fair chance to adjust the settings. If we still can’t contain your dog in the first 12 months, we refund you.
It doesn’t cover a dog that isn’t wearing the collar, an open gate with no wire protecting it, or negligence unrelated to the equipment.

When a physical fence makes more sense
An underground fence keeps your dog in. It doesn’t keep other animals or people out. To keep coyotes or a neighbour’s dog out, or very young children in, a physical fence is the better tool.
Do-it-yourself kits exist too. With us you also get the trenched installation, the training with you on install day and a 12-month containment guarantee.
I was telling him how much I value the system and how little it actually costs when you think about how long you’ll have it. There is no way my dogs would have this amount of space to run if I had to pay for a regular ‘human’ fence. Only regret was that I waited as long as I did.

Is this the same thing as an invisible fence?
Yes. Hidden fence, in-ground fence and invisible fence all describe the same idea: a buried boundary wire and a receiver collar. Invisible Fence® is also a brand name. We install and service Pet Stop® equipment.
Will it hurt my dog?
It’s a deterrent, so your dog will feel it, but it’s designed to startle, not to injure. The collar beeps first, so your dog has a chance to turn back. If your dog keeps going, a static correction follows. Day one is beep only; after that the correction comes in gradually, starting at a level most dogs barely notice and going only as high as your dog needs. You can feel it on your own hand before the collar goes on your dog, and most trained dogs end up answering to the beep alone.
What about puppies and small dogs?
Puppies can start at 12 weeks, and there’s no minimum or maximum weight. The receiver weighs about an ounce, or two with the strap, so it suits tiny breeds and giants alike.
Will it work on my stubborn dog?
In 16 years we’ve only had 5 dogs we couldn’t contain, and no breed is turned away. Strong-willed breeds like Huskies and Great Pyrenees take more patience and higher settings. If we still can’t contain your dog in the first 12 months, the money-back guarantee applies.
What happens if the power goes out?
The transmitter needs power, so keep your dog supervised until it’s back. The Complete package includes a battery backup that keeps the fence running for 8 to 24 hours, and its LINK transmitter tells you about outages and wire breaks.
Do you service other systems?
Yes. We find and repair wire breaks on any brand of in-ground fence, and a service call for a single break starts at $155. We also sell batteries for Invisible Fence® collars. We can’t repair other brands’ transmitters or collars. Service and repair
